The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa Psychiatry Residency Program offers four-week rotations to fourth-year medical students who might be interested in attending our residency. The rotations allow for participation in some of the same teaching and rotation sessions as our psychiatry residents, including inpatient, outpatient, student health and consult-liaison.
We participate in the Visiting Student Learning Opportunity (VSLO) program. Please log into VSLO and click Elective Catalog at the top right and choose Elective Search. Type Tuscaloosa into the Enter Search Criteria box toward the top of the page. This should bring up 91-684 – Tuscaloosa Psychiatry Elective under the University of Alabama at Birmingham Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine as the sponsoring institution. You will find information there about the elective and the application process. Applications can be submitted beginning March 2, 2026, and rotation offers will be made to selected students starting April 1, 2026.
